Life in Hong Kong is hectic. The modern and high-tech metropolis recognized for being a leading global trade center regularly shows up among top-10 lists for busiest cities. Work, work, work is not just a saying here, it is a way of life.
Forget about a 9-5 schedule, work in Hong Kong usually lasts into night and working even after you get home is not only common, it’s almost expected.
In fact, a survey of 400 Hong Kong residents found that they have the worst work-life balance among workers in the Asia-Pacific region.
That’s where I found myself, living a busy and stressed life. And then I went on a trip to Bhutan, continually ranked as the happiest country in all of Asia. The country actually measures Gross National Happiness (GNH) instead of GDP and the ultimate goal of life there is simple - “to be happy”.
The spiritual beliefs of Bhutanese make them the epitome of “simple living” and “high thinking”.
The trip inspired me to further explore what’s the true meaning of life. I started to think about the value of my dream as I think well being revolves around eating healthy, regular exercise and being conscious of our mind.
Creating HyggeWellbeing allows me to share these ideas and products that have helped me find the balance of my life needed.
Eat your way to wellbeing
These are products that keep me healthy and active, and give me the energy I need as I go through life.
Because one thing I’ve found is that eating fruits, seeds, plant-based foods is part of the “hygge” way, a Danish “way of life” that advocates for simplicity.
We source our products based on a combination of “hygge” and Bhutanese concepts, all meant to keep your body and mind in optimum shape.
Products like Nature’s Path Honey’d Corn Flakes. These crisp, golden, gluten-free flakes are made of pure cornmeal and sweetened with a mix of organic evaporated cane juice and honey. They're low in fat and cholesterol free. They're made without artificial preservatives or additives, and the company is committed to being socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. In essence, it’s food that it’s healthy for you and the planet. They promote eating food that is real and healthy and organic and delicious - food that is good for your body and the planet.
And health, as we’ve found this year with the COVID-19 pandemic raging around the world, is much more important than everything else.
Feeling super starts with ingesting foods that don’t drag us down, won’t be heavy in our bodies for hours and, most importantly, give us the minerals, vitamins and nutrients we need to keep going, prevent ailments and help us fight off diseases and recover faster if we do come down with something.
Our superfoods are things like Ceres Organics-Kelp Flakes, which are harvested from unpolluted waters around the Banks Peninsula in the South Island of New Zealand. The kelp is then slowly dried at low temperatures to lock in its inherent nutrients, before being milled into fine flakes. You can sprinkle the flakes over your favorite foods for a boost of nutrition and flavor.
These flakes pack an iodine punch.
Most people haven’t heard much about iodine, but this is an essential mineral commonly found in seafood. It helps your thyroid gland to make thyroid hormones, which help control cell growth, repair damaged cells and support a healthy metabolism. And, unfortunately, up to a third of people worldwide are at risk of an iodine deficiency.
You only need a touch of the flakes to get all the iodine your body needs.
A healthy mind
But your body can’t work without your mind.
That’s why we offer the services of our Wellbeing ambassadors.
I think people come into your life with a reason. They’re the answer to our prayers. They are placed before us to lead us in the correct paths we should take, so we don’t deviate from our true calling.
Our ambassadors are people I connected with who have enriched my life, whether helping me to concentrate, find balance or hone my leadership skills.
They are doctors, psychotherapists, nutritionists and experts whose sole purpose is to help individuals find the success and well being they crave in their life.
These professionals are part of our wellbeing ecosystem that seeks to offer a unique proposition focused on enjoying the little things we take for granted, the blessings we may not recognize and above all, devote ourselves to the simple happiness that comes from being alive on this planet.
Helping the Earth
And we don’t forget about this place we call home.
Sustainability and social responsibility is not just an empty message for us, it’s something we practice every day.
HK$1 of every sale goes to plant a tree. It’s our way of saying thanks for trusting us to provide you with the best products Earth gives us. We want the planet to continue giving us all those wonderful foods we need and the only way to make sure it does that is by keeping it healthy. Trees give us oxygen, help birds, insects and other animals to continue living and let us appreciate the beauty of nature.
We want the world to thrive, just as we do, and the best way to do that is by helping its wellbeing.
